3. The Eleventh Doctor And River Song

The Doctor has tried romance but only with River Song (on screen at least - fans have never met Susan's grandmother) has he attempted a relationship. Of course, this being the Doctor, it goes beyond a meal and a night at the cinema. The pair live out their affair in the opposite direction with River's first meeting with the Doctor resulting in her demise.
