10 Doctor Who Plot Holes You Didn't Realise Were Actually Solved

5. How Did Skaro Come Back After Remembrance Of The Daleks?

Remembrance of the Daleks is notable for being one of the few times the Doctor begins an episode with a fully thought-out plan. Setting the tone for the rest of his incarnation, Remembrance shows the Seventh Doctor playing two warring Dalek factions against each other, getting one to wipe out the other before manipulating the victors into unintentionally destroying Skaro with the hand of Omega.

It’s a huge moment in the series’ history with the Doctor finally taking matters into his own hands and actively attempting to wipe out his greatest foe, arguably firing the first shot of the Time War in the process. It was therefore a bit of a shock to long-time fans when Skaro was mentioned as being very much intact in the TV Movie, even more so when it showed up pretty much back to its old self in Asylum of the Daleks, and later The Magician’s Apprentice/The Witch’s Familiar.

This has, however, been addressed multiple times in the Doctor Who expanded universe, and the answer is rather obvious in retrospect: it was a Time War, and the Daleks meddled with time. Wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey, etc.

Really, this one only appears to be a plot hole because it’s easy to forget the absolutely immense scale Doctor Who can sometimes operate on. A sun going supernova and wiping out a planet might seem like a big deal on the face of it, but in a series where two time-travelling species are having the war-to-end-all-wars across all of time and space, resurrecting a planet isn’t really that infeasible a task.

For an even simpler explanation, as Missy puts it: “They’ve brought it back.” It's not a stretch to imagine the Daleks rebuilding Skaro – after all they must've built it in the first place!

Alix Cochrane hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would probably end up sitting in a notes file for months, gathering dust and never actually being uploaded.
