10 Dumbest Things In Star Trek: Picard
7. ANOTHER Secret Romulan Group?
Lower Decks did a marvellous little skit on the Romulans plotting and scheming during its fourth season, and the episode I Have No Bones Yet I Must Flee. It wasn't far wrong because within the super-secret Tal'Shiar there was an even more secret group known as the Zhat Vash, and alongside them, a group of honest warrior nuns.
Certainly, Picard did wonders for advancing the Romulan story arc after the destruction of their homeworld, a hand technically forced by the 2009 Kelvin Timeline movie. The Empire was destabilised and scattered, but they just couldn't keep their little secret societies down. Technically, a sub-section of the Tal-Shiar, the Zhat Vash appear to be incredibly dominant when it comes to this series, leaving fans to wonder precisely where they had been for such a long time. Star Trek is no stranger to throwing in the (more than occasional) curveball, but this one really swooped in from left-field deserving all the baseball metaphors available.
So too was the sudden arrival of the Qowat Milat. Again, while adding another layer to Romulan society, it seems awfully out of place and more of a plot device than anything else. Ultimately, it introduces Elnor into the La Sirena crew and his reason to be; however, for a race that prides itself (or did) on its secretive nature, it seems an unusual path to tread. The fact that both of these groups miraculously appear alongside each other in Picard seems awfully convenient.
