10 Dumbest Ways Supposedly Badass TV Characters Died
3. Carl Grimes Is Bitten By Walkers/Suicide - The Walking Dead
Sometimes a show can break away from its source material and make changes for the better. Whilst this is definitely what the producers behind The Walking Dead had in mind when the decision was made for Carl to depart, it hasn't exactly worked out.
Carl was an integral part of the show. As a main cast member since the first series, he grew up in front of viewers, surviving in a post-apocalyptic nightmare and still managing to retain much of his sweetness and humanity. Fans of the comic knew Carl's path was to eventually grow into a leader like his father Rick, but the show had other ideas.
Whilst fans were understandably angry that the show chose to kill Carl off when he was still alive in the comics, this isn't what makes Carl's exit so dumb. But the show tries to convince the audience that Carl had to die in order to set Rick down a path of peace when he didn't need to.
Rick eventually came to accept his son's views in the comics without Carl dying. Furthermore, making Carl a martyr for a more peaceful world in TWD hasn't lasted at all. With the departure of both Rick and Carl, Alexandria hasn't exactly blossomed in their absence, and the series hasn't made any progress towards a brighter or better future either.
Aside from this, Carl's death felt more than a little forced given that he wasn't facing off against many Walkers when he was bitten. But this wouldn't be the first time TWD had put a character in a scenario they should have managed to get out of but somehow didn't.
