10 Epic TV Shows That Never Made It To Our Screens

6. Hieroglyph

A period drama set in ancient Egypt, starring Gimli himself, John Rhys-Davies and a host of upcoming young talent...sounds like it'd be worth a punt.

Shame that 20th Century Fox Television didn't feel the same way about Hieroglyph, after deciding that the show wasn't coming together as they'd hoped.

Skipping the pilot stage in 2013, Hieroglyph went straight into pre-production for a 13-episode season and started filming in Morocco around early 2014.

It wasn't exactly what you'd call a tentative approach to a fledgling concept and sadly the series had hit the skids by June.

When your project was being cited as a 'cheap Game of Thrones rip-off'- after its initial trailer - it was probably wise for Fox to pull the plug on this one.

That being said, who wouldn't want to see a show about 'deceit, sex, intrigue in court and fantastical things'? As Fox Entertainment's Kevin Reilly, sold it to the public.

Perhaps after Game of Thrones fatigue has settled down a bit, Hieroglyph could go back to the drawing board and find a place on our screens.
