10 Family Guy Episodes That PISSED People Off

4. Trans-Fat (S17E13)

Family Guy Turban Cowboy
Fox

Unfortunately, this is yet another episode in the line of Family Guy outings that crosses the line and makes fun at the expense of the transgender community. There is no subtlety here, no nuanced humour or even any attempt at anything other than offensive, transphobic jokes.

The plot of the episode is as ridiculous as you might expect. Peter decides to tell people he is transgender because of the social and professional benefits he gains. After abusing and disrespecting the troubles and struggle of the trans community, he gets knocked out and wakes up to find, to his horror, that he has been given the gender reassignment surgery he claimed to want.

The conclusion of the episode actually sees Peter understand the battles the trans community have to fight through in a conversation with Ida, a character previously used to channel similarly offensive jokes through in the past, but the damage was already done.

While the ending of the episode tries to send the right message, the previous 20 minutes of offensive and tasteless jokes robs it of any real credibility. Understandably so, viewers were far from happy with this episode, and Family Guy trying to save face at the end made absolutely no difference.
