10 Game Of Thrones Characters You Really Wanted To Survive
7. Barristan Selmy
In season one Barristan was little more than a glorified extra. He gave Ned a few key bits of information during his time in King's Landing, and we got to see him tell Joffrey what a little brat he was, but for the most part he was a fairly unassuming character.
When he popped up again in season three to offer his service to Dany he fast became a fan favourite. Having a respected knight at her side not only gave her cause more legitimacy, but it gave fans a sense that Dany was finally amassing a loyal and capable group of followers. Surely her chances of taking the Iron Throne were increased with the renowned Ser Barristan at her side.
Then in season five things really started going down hill in Meereen; the Sons of the Harpy were killing Unsullied left right and centre, and civil unrest became rampant. Sure enough, Barristan stepped up to the task, battling the faceless foes in the streets of Meereen. His efforts were just enough to save Grey Worm, but the old knight succumbed to his wounds.
This felt like one of the more untimely demises for our characters, not least because his book counterpart is still very much alive and kicking.
