10 Game Of Thrones Characters You Really Wanted To Survive
4. Robb Stark
After the death of the head of the Stark family, Robb took up his father's mantel, called his banners and led the North in an all out rebellion against the Lannisters. Hopes for Stark retribution and victory rested on Robb's shoulders alone. While he was still alive he became an integral protagonist in the story. Richard Madden gave so good a performance, that George R. Martin was encouraged to deviated from the book character and write in more scenes for Robb. In the books he features far less prominently, indeed most of what we hear about Robb's escapades are told through the POV chapters of his mother.
Although Robb won every battle he fought he still found himself on the back foot, particuarlaly after Theon's betrayal in season two. The odds were stacked against the Young Wolf from the start, but after he lost the North to the Ironborn and pissed off House Frey, he was as good as dead.
Although viewers imagined some kind of mischief from Walder Frey, nothing prepared them for what was to come. The Red Wedding took all the shock and disbelief felt at Ned's death, and cranked up the dial to near monumental degrees of trauma.
