4. Karsi (Birgitte Hjort Sorensen) and Loboda (Zahary Baharov)
Hardhome is far and away the best episode of Season 5 and easily one of the best in the entire series. And much of that has to do with the show-stopping finale in which these two appear.
Karsi endears herself to the audience with her dry humor, her respect for Tormund, and contempt for the cannibalistic Thenns. She wins over our affection with the revelation that she has two kids and her decision to join with the Crows is driven by her desire to see that they’re safe. This makes her death at the hands of undead children particularly brutal. When she is revived as a wight, fans the world over thought to themselves “Dammit, I really liked her”.
And then we have Loboda: Before the arrival of the Army of the Dead, he appears to be another pig-headed antagonist. But it’s Loboda who orders the gates shut and rallies the Wildlings. It’s Loboda who helps Jon try and recover the dragonglass and its Loboda who distracts the White Walker while Jon does it. This mighty Thenn is dispatched in seconds to global chorus of "I guess he wasn't so bad".
To Karsi and Loboda! We hardly knew ye.
