10 Great Shows To Watch On Britbox UK

1. Broadchurch

Between 2007 and 2011, ITV's attempt at a rival for Doctor Who was the Jurrasic-Park-on-a-budget drama series Primeval, which largely failed to make a lasting impression on public consciousness. So as the saying goes, if you can't beat them, copy their cast.

In 2013, they brought in Chris Chibnall, a Who writer and current showrunner, with a host of former actors including David Tennant and Arthur Darvill, and created Broadchurch, one of the best crime dramas of recent years. The first series neatly solves the mystery of a young boy's murder, but two further arcs would follow until the Broadchurch well ran dry.

The later seasons focus more on the damage the ordeal has caused within the village, particularly between Beth and Mark Latimer, the deceased's parents. Quite why series three exists is a mystery of its own, as a host of new characters appear from nowhere while others vanish; but as we've learned recently, Chibnall likes his mysteries. To be honest, at the rate he's presently firing his retcon machine gun, it wouldn't be a surprise if Beth turned out to be an incarnation of the Doctor. Better watch it now, before he decides to spoil things.

I'm perfectly sane, or so the voices tell me. British, sarcastic, president of the European Slinky Association, have a tendency to lie when listing things about myself. 100% guilty of being a massive geek obsessed with Doctor Who, Harry Potter and video games. If you can't find me on the internet, I'm probably locked in a room playing Spyro the Dragon on my old PlayStation, or blowing everything to smithereens with a concrete donkey on Worms: Armageddon.
