10 Great TV Cliffhangers (With Awful Pay-Offs)

2. The Walking Dead - "Last Day On Earth"

Glen Walking Dead Negan
AMC

Yep, that's right. The Walking Dead gets the (dis)honor of making this list twice thanks to that godawful Negan storyline.

As the show dragged on some of its worst writing to date for more than two seasons, it's being quite generous to only give the show two spots on this list. The worst offender comes with Last Day on Earth, the season six finale. It's the episode where Jeffrey Dean Morgan is officially introduced as Negan.

Negan makes a spectacular entrance by capturing Rick and his gang in a torturous game of cat and mouse. Morgan's character soon shows everyone who's boss, and to top it all he decides to bash in someone's brain. It made for a spectacular season finale, even though many were pissed off by the fact that the show explicitly decided to keep viewers hanging, as no one got to see who took a bat to the head.

In the end, the showrunners got what they wanted as people showed up in record numbers to watch the Season Seven premiere. However, when the bloody premiere was over, so were many fans.

People showed up to see who got killed, and as soon as they saw, they'd seen enough and quit the show. Over the course of the Saviors arc, many more would similarly drop off due to the story being stretched out way too much.
