10 Greatest Animated TV Shows Of The 2000s
6. The Boondocks
The Boondocks is a raw, irreverent sitcom, based on Aaron McGruder’s comic book strip of the same name. However, this adult show is not just explicit for the sake of shock factor. Through the family of the Freemans, it explores a mix of culture, lifestyle, race, and stereotypes that account for both the comedic and dramatic aspects of the series.
It also provides a commentary on American politics from a Black perspective. Grazing upon controversial political events of the 2000s, McGruder wanted to challenge his audience on topics they wouldn’t usually think about.
The Boondocks' harrowing content was (unsurprisingly) met with mixed reviews, but it paid off in the end because of its bitingly satirical look on American society.
