10 Greatest Disney Channel Original Movies
6. Don't Look Under the Bed
This is probably the most terrifying thing that has ever aired on the Disney Channel, so much so that it's really rare to see it broadcast anymore. As though the network was like, "OK, we went a little too dark on this one, let's dial it back from now on and never speak of this again."
Which is a shame, because it's so good. Don't Look Under the Bed is about a teenage girl who suddenly encounters her little brother's imaginary friend Larry after a series of bizarre and unexplained things begin happening around town.
Sort of like Drop Dead Fred, but less overtly sexual and more incredibly creepy. It turns out that in this universe, when imaginary friends are forgotten, they slowly devolve into Boogeymen. And since the girl convinced her little brother that his imaginary friend wasn't real, Larry begins to change.
The story is good, but what makes this movie special is the makeup and costume design which do an amazing job of showcasing the horrific transition from imaginary friend to boogeyman. It's possible that this is the first DCOM that introduced the concept of body horror, and for that we have to give it some credit for sheer daring.
