10 Greatest Ever Anime Villains

4. Legato Bluesummers (Trigun)

Legato Bluesummers is Griffith perfected. Because unlike Vash's brother knives, the true final villain of the story, Legato wins.

No, really. Legato only had one goal: to make Vash suffer. Even if he did get out of the funk of being forced to kill Legato, Legato got to die knowing he essentially forced space Superman to break his oath and shoot him in the head.

But that isn't the only reason to love Legato. His cold, sadistic nature make him a compelling presence throughout the story as well. There's just something so chilling about the mere presence of this character. And sure, since the anime was made before the manga finished its run, we never found out why - say - he hates slave owners more than the rest of humanity (whom he already despises) or what happens to the towns he has drop everything and walk out in the night. But to be fair, those details are just fine to be left as mysteries.

Legato's ability to take over the bodies of others is unrivaled, with no one able to actually beat it in the end. Sure, ultimately Vash comes out on top of everything, but Legato's job was to make Vash experience pain. And he accomplished that mission with flying colors.
