It was always going to be a tough task turning Thomas Harris's source material into a TV series, but for three seasons we dribbled over our screens with Bryan Fuller's Hannibal. The Pushing Daisies creator combined the gruesome tale of Hannibal the Cannibal with stylistic shooting and an all-star cast.

Casting aside the original Manhunter from 1986, and the Hopkins era of Hannibal Lecter films, Mads Mikkelsen took on the titular role with gusto. Hugh Dancy's performance as the morally grey Will Graham elevated the character beyond Edward Norton's Red Dragon performance, putting him up there with Hannibal's other greatest adversary, Clarice Starling.

Cut down in its prime, Fuller's show at least managed to close the book on the Red Dragon portion of the show that it was trying to tell. While Hannibal was planned to run for seven seasons, legal battles with MGM studios and ratings struggles meant that we never got to reach Fuller's full vision for the characters. That being said, he sure took a big bite out of it!
