Grief and loss are recurring themes in the modern series, but this moment from The Tomb of the Cybermen is an understated speech about honoring those we've lost.

Victoria has had no time to grieve the death of her father in The Evil of the Daleks before she's thrown into another battle with the Doctor's other old enemy - the Cybermen. In a quiet moment, the Doctor tells her that, in time, her memories of her father's death will be replaced by those of happier times. He reveals that, despite being so ancient, he himself can still remember his family when he wants to.

It's a reminder that, rather than forgetting those we've lost, they're always there in our minds. However, in travelling with the Doctor, Victoria can build new memories and move on with her life.

The Doctor's description of travelling in the TARDIS is also beautifully evocative: "Nobody in the universe can do what we're doing." It's a surprising emotional beat in a story about cold logic and waking Cybermen, that also honours the loss of a key character.

It's more than poor Adric got.
