10 Greatest Star Trek Moments In 2024
8. Say Hi To Saturn
For want of a temporal displacement drive (see next Tuesday), we missed Star Trek's record fifteen Saturn Award nominations across seven categories on last year's version of this list. In any case, the ceremony for the 51st Saturn Awards of The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films was this year — on 4 February. And Trek went home with quite a few trophies. The Federation News Network would have had a field day. Here's a rundown right up in your PADD.
Star Trek: Picard won four of its seven nominations, including Best Science Fiction Television Series (beating out Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Best Actor in a Television Series for Sir Patrick Stewart, and Best Supporting Actor for Jonathan Frakes (against Ed Speleers, Todd Stashwick, and Ethan Peck). Jeri Ryan then won for Best Supporting Actress. Paul Wesley also went home with the gong for Best Guest Star (against Amanda Plummer).
The evening wasn't over for Trek. Ensign Rivers of the NX-01 and NX-02, aka Seth MacFarlane, received the Robert Forster Artist's Award, for his "body of work and impact on the entertainment industry," from none other than William Shatner. The cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation also picked up a Lifetime Achievement Award, one previously given to Leonard Nimoy.
Nominated for the 52nd Saturn Awards are Star Trek: Discovery for Best Science Fiction Television Series, and Star Trek: Lower Decks for Best Animated Television Series or Special.
