3. Queen Grudge

Booker's arrival in Discovery helped to shake things up in Season 3. The most important thing he brought with him? His cat, Grudge. He didn't even need to declare that she was a queen. One look at that majestic creature and it's clear we're in the presence of royalty.

There's a distinct possibility that Grudge could outstare a Cardassian, outhunt a Klingon and outsass a Vulcan. Watching her psyche out Tilly and literally walk all over her was a genuine highlight of the season. We could have watched an entire episode of Grudge and Tilly going toe to paw.

Happy to be picked up and carried around like the queen that she is, Grudge obviously has her humanoid companion wrapped around her little claw. And honestly, we'd be content to serve her ladyship, too. Grudge never seems far from Booker's thoughts, and his willingness to defend her honour against rude comments about her size reassures us that she has the owner she deserves (although we're not entirely sure who owns whom here).

Every ship needs a ship's cat, and they don't come mightier than this one. Of course, it's doubtful that Grudge has any intention of actually working for a living. Perhaps keeping Booker out of trouble is more than enough work for one animal.

She was drawn in by the franchise's optimism, compassion and flair for character-driven storytelling. She's been writing stories since she could pick up a pen and has spent far too much time immersed in television, films, books, music and theatre. She loves any chance to talk or write about her favourite fandoms, of which there are many.
