10 Greatest Star Trek Pets

2. Porthos The Muskehound

(Ten points to anyone who can still sing that theme tune.)

Arguably one of the most important members of the Enterprise NX-01 crew, Porthos became the galaxy's best ever morale officer (don't tell Neelix).

This brave and intrepid pup was a trailblazer for all the other Starfleet pets that were to come. Although considering how riled Archer could become on occasion, we're pretty sure Porthos was as much an emotional support dog as a pet.

Still, there was no doubt how much Archer loved him, and seeing his devotion to the valiant beagle was just as satisfying as watching the rest of the crew bond. Archer even spent a whole night losing his mind when Porthos became sick, and who wouldn't be worried about such a good doggo? Just look at that dog's little face and say you wouldn't move heaven and earth for him. Look at him!

Porthos faced the dangers of space travel with courage and enthusiasm. Exploring strange new worlds, riding out battles, calling out intruders, contending with anomalies, and enduring Archer's endless log recordings. He's even suffered the indignity of the decontamination chamber, without so much as a yap of objection...just dignified patience.

We can't think of a better companion for a captain and crew facing the unknown and forging a legend.
