10 Greatest Star Wars: The Clone Wars Episodes That Changed Everything
2. The Phantom Apprentice
After The Clone Wars was revived on Disney+ for a seventh and final season, fans were ecstatic to get some form of closure to the beloved series. And boy did it not disappoint.
Following a slow-burning, yet equally enjoyable, start, the final season kicked into high gear in the series' concluding arc: The Siege of Mandalore. The Siege has been referenced throughout the canon since the series' initial cancellation, with Ahsoka's encounter with Maul even being depicted in E.K. Johnston's novel Ahsoka.
However, the real-deal confrontation surpassed all expectations as the two warriors meet in the great hall of Mandalore. The composition of the scene is a real testament to how far the series' creators have grown, using wide shots and a vivid black-red-orange colour scheme, as the siege itself burns in the background.
Kevin Kiner does some of his best work on the score, encapsulating the chilling eeriness of the moment, as Maul openly places all the pieces together of Darth Sideous' plan. Ahsoka's teetering between two paths is captivating to behold, with the devil-like Maul offering a hope to save what has already been lost.
Of course, The Phantom Apprentice isn't short of action. The Siege presents a colourful and chaotic array of clone troopers and Death Watch soldiers battling it out throughout the city, while Ahsoka's duel with Maul delivers one of the greatest fights in the entire saga. Ray Park - the original Darth Maul - even provided motion-capture for the duel!
