10 Greatest TV Shows Of The Decade... So Far

4. The Pacific

Broadcasting The Buzz:

Following the mega success of Band Of Brothers its creators €“ including Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg €“ turned to the war in the Pacific for the inspiration of their next miniseries. Tracking the fate and fortunes of the 1st Marine Division's finest, the story focuses on real life soldiers John Basilone, Robert Leckie and Eugene Sledge as we see this bloody chapter in WWII through their eyes. Spanning ten episodes, the series hits all of the historical checkpoints you€™d expect €“ Guadalcanal, Peleliu and a shell-shocking focus on Iwo Jima €“ but it€™s the subtle moments endured before and after these men leave for their war that really resonate. Epic.

Major Players:

Like Band Of Brothers, The Pacific features a platoon of faces you've undoubtedly seen before. Playing a conflicted poster boy, Jon Seda stands out as the show€™s stoic heart. A salute should also go to Joseph Mazzello - aka Tim from Jurassic Park - as Sledge and James Badge Dale (recently seen in Iron Man 3) who plays Leckie. Also keep your eyes peeled for appearances from The Walking Dead€™s Jon Bernthal and also Jacob Pitts of Justified fame.

What Next?

Next up, reports indicate that Spielberg and Hanks are donning their exec producer caps for another World War II miniseries called Masters Of The Air. Adapted from Donald L. Miller€™s less snappily-titled, Masters of the Air: America€™s Bomber Boys Who Fought the Air War Against Nazi Germany, this promises to offer a different perspective, seen through the goggles of those that fought in the skies. No word as of yet when we can expect this one to take off, but expect to be peppered with more details in due course.
