4. The Doctor & Rose Doctor Who
Okay, this ones ever so slightly cheating, but watching the onscreen partnership of The Doctor and Rose Tyler come to an end was akin to watching a much-loved couple break up and equally as shattering. The revived Doctor Who series featured quite a few companions, but no one resonated more with the audience than Billie Pipers Rose Tyler and the weird romantic tension she had with David Tennants Doctor. Of course, Rose returned for a few one-off appearances (most notably in the brilliant 50th Anniversary episode) but her final regular appearance was incredibly poignant for long time and new fans alike. After deciding shed rather be with The Doctor than her family, it seems as though Rose and The Doctor will be travelling companions forever. However she is plunged into a parallel universe, separating her from him for good. Doctor Who has a reputation for tugging at the heartstrings but this is perhaps its most poignant moment. Even Rose breaking down to a hologram of The Doctor and telling him she loves him doesnt come close to the emotional blow struck by the iconic image of both characters with their ears pressed up against the same wall in different universes, helpless to what tore them apart.
