10 Horror TV Shows That Got Cancelled After Just One Season

9. Resident Evil

Lovecraft Country
Netflix

After the disappointing cinematic release of Resident Evil: Welcome To Racoon City in 2021, fans of the popular video game series were in desperate need of a great adaptation. Fortunately, Netflix attempted to offer a television series instead of treading in familiar feature-length footsteps, which many were in anticipation of after the streaming service's success with other video game adaptations like Castlevania, The Witcher, and Arcane.

A fresh attempt to tell its own story after the events of the Resident Evil 5 game, twins Jade and Billie Wesker try to uncover the dark secrets hidden within New Raccoon City and what their father has in store for them in 2022. Meanwhile, Resident Evil also tells the story of a future where humanity is on the brink of extinction and mutated monsters roam the wastelands as Jade avoids capture from the Umbrella Corporation.

Despite Netflix's positive track record with video game adaptations, Resident Evil just failed to capture anyone's interest and fell out of the streaming service's top ten list after just three weeks, with a debut in second place before being cancelled in August - just a month after the series had debuted.

It also didn't help that Resident Evil came out shortly after the release of the second part of Stranger Things' fourth season, and fans still had a bad taste in their mouths from the mediocre Welcome to Raccoon City released only a year prior.
