10 How I Met Your Mother Moments That Prove Ted Is A Total Jerk

The myriad issues with the series finale of How I Met Your Mother have been covered extensively from a dramatic standpoint, but from a character perspective, the ending is the final nail in the coffin for any semblance of Ted Mosby’s good side.

This whole story, this whole series, has been building up to Ted gaining the approval of his kids to make yet another romantic overture towards Robin. The woman we’ve seen time and again he is not compatible with. The woman who married and then divorced Ted’s best friend (and it’s worth remembering how furious Ted was when Robin and Barney got together).

The conceit of the is abandoned then and there. Ted’s not a caring dad trying to give his children an insight into their late mother. He’s a middle aged horndog who wants to take another swing at a woman he clearly shouldn’t be with, and feels the need to get the OK of his son and daughter before doing so.

It boggles the mind that the writers thought this equated to the happy ending everyone wanted.
