10 Huge Misconceptions About Doctor Who

6. The Doctor Is Forever Destined To Regenerate Into Certain Faces

It's a big "what if" that some of us enjoy to theorise over: what if some Doctors had regenerated sooner or later than they actually did? For example, what if Ten really had have died from the Dalek attack in 'The Stolen Earth', only for Matt Smith to replace him mid-story? What if Nine had survived 'The Parting of the Ways' and met the Cybermen? Well, if those things had happened, we wouldn't have those Doctors we have now. Moffat's explained in interviews that those faces are not predetermined; the Doctor wasn't born to be Peter Capaldi one day, and that we'll learn very soon how a Time Lord came to share his face with a Roman. It's an interesting concept, and actually it brings the show back in touch with reality. Matt Smith wouldn't have been cast by Davies halfway through Series 4, would he? And would David Tennant have been cast later on?
