10 Hugely Underrated Fantasy TV Shows From The Last Decade

7. Reaper (2007-2009)

The CW

Reaper is a blend of comedy, drama and fantasy about a college dropout whose parents sold his soul to the Devil before his birth. On his twenty-first birthday, the Devil returns to collect and insists that Sam works has a bounty hunter for escaped souls, with the help of his best friends Ben and Sock.

Reaper was cancelled after only two seasons and was barely renewed after its first, but it's clear that it had the potential to survive for as long as its rival slacker comedy with fantastical elements, Chuck. The friendship between the central trio isn't forced and none is specifically designated as the comic relief (although Sock comes closest); the show's biggest laughs come from the chemistry between the three of them. Casting Ray Wise as the Devil was a stroke of genius and he steals every scene. Although the second season is patchy, Reaper is never less than watchable.
