10 Interesting Facts About The Making Of Game Of Thrones
4. Sophie Turner Adopted Her Direwolf
The direwolf scene is a great moment in Game of Thrones. Following the execution of a deserter, Eddard Stark and his sons come across a litter of direwolf pups near Winterfell. Sansa and Arya, the two Stark sisters, are also given one of these pups.
Tragically, Sansa’s direwolf, Lady, doesn’t make it past the middle of the first season. Following an altercation between Joffrey and Arya, Cersei demands that Lady be put to death despite the fact it was Arya’s direwolf (not Sansa’s) who attacked her son.
But this wasn’t the last time Sophie Turner saw Lady. In fact, she’d grown so attached to her on-screen pet that she adopted her permanently:
“Growing up I always wanted a dog, but my parents never wanted one. We kind of fell in love with my character’s direwolf…We knew Lady died and they wanted to re-home her. My mum persuaded them to let us adopt her.”
Though it’s a shame Lady didn’t last very long in the actual show, this behind-the-scenes story is a cute piece of trivia for the fandom.
