10 Interesting Facts About The Making Of Game Of Thrones
3. Emilia Clarke Watched Hitler’s Speeches To Prepare For The Final Episode
The final episode of the show wasn’t embraced by the fanbase. Many people were unhappy with how the story wrapped up, criticising the rushed conclusion and the nonsensical selection of Brandon Stark as Lord of the Six Kingdoms.
Yet the episode isn’t without its moments. Sansa’s coronation is great, and so is Jon’s reunion with Ghost. Daenerys’ Valyrian speech is also a highlight thanks to a wicked delivery from Emilia Clarke, who was inspired by real dictators from the darkest corners of our past:
“I watched a lot of videos of…dictators and powerful leaders speaking a different language...If I can believe every single word I’m saying, the audience won’t need to be looking at the subtitles too much.”
Clarke even cited the infamous Adolf Hitler as one of the dictators she watched in preparation for her big moment, which is rather fitting given the scene’s resemblance to a Nazi rally.
Whilst Clarke’s delivery isn’t enough to redeem this disappointing episode, her preparation certainly heightened her performance.
