10 Marvel Characters Who Deserve Their Own Disney+ Series
9. Maria Hill
What exactly does Maria Hill do?
She’s been in six MCU movies to date, but in that time she’s not done much that another character couldn’t have feasibly done had she been written out. Helping Captain America escape in The Winter Soldier or shooting the bazooka in Spider-Man: Far From Home were probably her high points, but they’re hardly spectacular in the grand scheme of things.
It’s not like Marvel can’t write women either. Nebula is arguably their most complex character, Shuri their biggest scene stealer and Black Widow, Pepper Potts and Peggy Carter have been holding their own since Phase 1. Jane Foster even looks set for redemption in Thor: Love & Thunder. For Maria Hill though, it just hasn’t clicked.
Actress Cobie Smulders isn’t the issue here either. In Hill’s brief spotlights, Smulders is always charming and wry. Her Robin Scherbatsky in How I Met Your Mother is one of the 21st Century’s most popular sitcom characters too.
Perhaps the issue is just breathing space; something Hill is rarely afforded around Fury and the supers. A solo show in the vein of Agent Carter might help her get a foothold going forward.
