7. Ani Attends The Drug-Fueled Sex Party (And Kills A Man)

The implication of a network of high class hookers linked to sexually depraved rich and powerful people is established early on in Season 2 of True Detective - one of the first things we see is Ben Caspere's vast collection of sex toys and art, littering his ransacked home. By the end of the sixth episode we get to see one of the notorious elite sex parties first hand, as Ani, posing as her sister, lines up for assessment before boarding the bus to take her and the other girls to the remote mansion. Once drugged, she wanders around the party in one of the stand out sequences of the series, the camera fixated on her disoriented face as a multitude of bodies writhe around her in a relentless orgy. The climax for the scene comes when she comes across the "missing" girl Vera and tries to save her - caught by a security guard, Ani is forced to whip out the knife taken from a dinner plate and slice into him as he tries to choke her out.
