10 Moments That Almost Saved True Detective Season 2

6. Frank Watches Blake's Lights Go Out

Given the number of double crosses and betrayals Frank has to endure it's no wonder that he has suspicions about his lieutenant, Blake. When Blake arrogantly turns up at the casino after running hookers for the Russian gangster Osip Frank, decides it's time to confront him about his loyalties. First Frank lulls Blake into a false sense of security, handing him a glass of whiskey. But as Blake goes to take a sip, Frank smashes his own glass on the side of his head before giving him a vicious beating. Grabbing him by the throat, he holds Blake up against the wall, saying, "Look me in the eyes - I wanna watch the lights go out." As Blake suffocates he buys himself a little time by revealing the $12 million cash hand-off between Osip and McCandless - Frank eases up and pours him another drink. But as Blake relaxes, offering to help from the inside, Frank pulls out a gun and shoots him in the gut. As he lies on the ground dying Franks stands over him, watching his lights go out.
