One of the original cast members of the sketch show Mad TV, actor and comedian Debra Wilson has enjoyed a vast career in film, television, and video games. Wilson is equally a Star Trek icon without ever having appeared in person. We will all recognise her instantly by The Sound of Her Voice — that of Captain Lisa Cusak — undoubtedly one of the most unique and tragic characters in the history of the franchise.

According to the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine Companion, producers rather aptly hired Wilson for The Sound of… based solely on hearing her voice. During filming, Wilson was then kept apart from the other actors — giving her performance either from the bridge, out in the hallway, or off to the side of Sisko's ready room. We all know what happened to Cusak in the end, too. Bloody temporal mechanics!

Prior to Cusak, Wilson played a Starfleet security officer in Star Trek: The Experience — The Klingon Encounter in Las Vegas. Most recently, Wilson has done voice-over work for several episodes of Star Trek: Prodigy — as various of 'The Unwanted' on Tars Lamora, Klingon Trij in Supernova, Parts 1 & 2, and the menacing A.I. in The Fast and the Curious, amongst others.

Wilson was also Orion officer Z'oto in the Star Trek: Lower Decks episode Something Borrowed, Something Green. To top that off, she played Dr. Eraam Duvall and the Hotari Queen in the 2023 video game Star Trek: Resurgence.

Jack Kiely is a writer with a PhD in French and almost certainly an unhealthy obsession with Star Trek.
