10 More Great TV Shows Cancelled After Just One Season

5. Spinning Out (2020)

My So-Called Life
Netflix

The Netflix produced show, Spinning Out is the most recent feature on this list. The TV show stars Kaya Scodelario as Kat Baker, a young ice skater who suffers an injury and is saved from an early retirement by being given the opportunity to pair skate instead.

Spinning Out has a massive emphasis on mental health, with Baker's own bipolar being a secret she keeps for as long as she can. The show is compelling, doesn’t over-egg its depiction of mental health and provides an addictive watch. It can be melodramatic and often veers over to guilty pleasure territory but features some great dance moments and ultimately succeeds in providing constant entertainment. However, the ending has widely been described as sticky and uneven, and a disappointing end makes its cancellation seem both less upsetting and less unlikely.

Although Spinning Out may be picked up by another network, Netflix cancelled the show almost immediately after it’s premiere and as of now we have little explanation as to why this is. The show built up a rabid fan base quickly who are largely campaigning to have it renewed elsewhere - maybe once this happens Netflix will regret ever letting it go.
