10 More Underhyped Shows That Blew Everyone Away

6. Banshee

It S Always Sunny
Cinemax

Banshee spent its entire run underrated, but by the end of its fifth and final season it had become something of a cult classic, and the ratings had been increasing every season at an unprecedented pace.

With little advertisement and limited audience awareness, the gritty crime-drama was brought to life by Cinemax studios, who were attempting to make more original content for their channel. Though they hoped Banshee would capitalise on Strike Back's success back in 2010, they struggled to get the marketing side of things right.

This issue was quickly solved, though, when the first season aired and set new viewership records for the network; records that would be broken with every subsequent season.

Thanks in equal part to the power of social media and the show's controversial violence, sex and shock value, Banshee proved it didn't need a big marketing campaign to get itself off the ground, just the right audience to spread its name and get others invested in things to come.
