Everyone loves a character who can be sympathetic towards others regardless of how different they are. And when said character can also go to war with powerful people in order to protect them, you know you’re looking at an absolute gem.

That’s exactly what Elisa Maza was. Originally a detective, she encounters Goliath and the rest of the Gargoyles and forms a strong bond with the ancient beings. When their safety is threatened courtesy of David Xanatos and his nefarious intentions, she refuses to sit back and watch.

Elisa fears no evil and takes on all villains, no matter how big or small, with equal bravery and determination. If nothing else, her slapping the taste out of influential bad guys is quite the spectacular sight.

Throw into consideration the time period during which this show first came out, Maza was one of the best early examples of diversity and representation in animated shows.

After battling Galactus and pinning Hulk Hogan in the main event of Wrestlemania, I've taken a break from living in fantasy worlds, to focus on writing about them. I'm a comic book geek, a wrestling mark, a break dancer, and a scientist. One of those things may not be true.
