4. Super Adventure Club

Trey and Matt’s war on Scientology reigns supreme once again and this time it was undeniably very personal. In fact, it was so personal that a prominent member of their personnel and one of the most beloved characters of the series were simultaneously dismissed in a gratuitously graphic, but extremely effective manner; Isaac Hayes and Chef were no more.

The Super Adventure Club, themselves a metaphor for Scientology, offered the school cafeteria Chef new endeavours and refreshing adventures to emphasize his life and bring him new horizons, away from his mundane life in the quiet mountain town. Similarly, in real life, Hayes was a scientologist himself and after the controversy of “Trapped in the Closet” he took his leave, understandably.

Matt and Trey, unable to reconcile with their former friend, decided that they were going to invent the Super Adventure Club with their reasoning being they considered Scientology were to blame for warping Hayes’ mind. Referring to them as a fruity little club time and time again throughout their episode and expressing their dismay at the real-life counterparts they imitate.

The episode ultimately culminates in the Super Adventure Club being partially to blame for Chef’s death and as it occurs, they turn their back on him taking no responsibility and showing no remorse for their actions. It provokes some thoughts, to say the least.
