When you consider the mind-blowing fact that Parker and Stone came up with this entire episode on a whim with less than a day until air and it instantly became one of the best in the entire franchise, it’s merely testament to their ability as writers. There are a few components responsible for its overwhelmingly positive reception, including narration that resembles a children’s storybook with each word rhyming, a clever story and layered twists, but above all else the most memorable part is easily the demonic woodland critters.

Each of the self-referential name bearing animals initially feel less like a parody and more reflective of the innocent, sweet-mannered anthropomorphic animals seen in old-school Disney movies. Until one animal becomes pregnant through immaculate conception and before we know it we’re in a retelling of the biblical story of Jesus Christ, except he’s less of a literary saviour and more of a literal hellraiser.

With this revelation the setting goes from joyous Christmas Special to uncanny tension-filled horror. The critters sacrifice a member to the devil while having “blood orgies” with one another. It gets much worse in Imaginationland when poor, poor Kurt Russell should have checked his six and instead gets over six of these creatures doing him against his will.
