Never one to sit still for long, Steven Spielberg is already busy preparing his next film project after West Side Story, and from the sound of things it might be his most intriguing project in literally decades.

Far away from the big-budget blockbusters and high-concept genre films he's more typically known for, Spielberg's next effort will be a semi-autobiographical drama based loosely on his own experiences growing up in Arizona.

Michelle Williams is already signed on to play a character inspired by Spielberg's mother and Seth Rogen is in talks to play a proxy for the filmmaker's uncle.

The casting process for the younger actors has reportedly been intensely secretive, though, and there's no word as of yet who will be playing a young Spielberg himself.

For the first time in 20 years, the director will also co-write a script to one of his own movies, alongside Tony Kushner who received Oscar nominations for penning two of Spielberg's previous films, Munich and Lincoln.

Shooting is expected to begin this summer for a 2022 release, and if nothing else it should be a totally unique outing for the legendary filmmaker.
