10 Most Gruesome TV Shows Of All Time

Frank Darabont's adaptation of Robert Kirkman's graphic novel is the zombie show that seems to have no end - or spin-off - in sight. And it was a bit of a gamechanger, displaying some of the most gruesome post-death imagery in the 90-minute pilot. But you don't hire gore make-up artist Greg Nicotero - who studied under Tom Savini - if you're looking for a few light touch-ups here and there.

Even Darabont's departure after the second season, and lead character Rick Grimes' (Andrew Lincoln) after the ninth, can't stop the show from ending. The show has rightfully been accused of what one might call Game of Thrones-itis, where regular characters are suddenly, randomly killed off for shock value, but audiences still tune in.

Fear The Walking Dead, the spin-off, has an equal following and re-kill count, full of bullet-riddled heads, decapitations, eye-impalings. The only reason The Walking Dead doesn't top off the list is the fact that the violence is slightly less disturbing given that, well, they were dead anyway.

Two years ago, AMC stated they have enough to continue the show for another decade, so dedicated fans have plenty to look forward to.
