10 Most Gruesome TV Shows Of All Time
4. Ash Vs. The Evil Dead
When Ash Vs. The Evil Dead was announced, there was little doubt in horror fans' minds it would continue to slapstick gore of the film franchise, and it didn't disappoint. Creators Sam and Ivan Raimi along with Tom Spezialy ensured the Starz show stayed true to the blood-splattered series, full of impalings and decapitations.
Moreover, they also retained the film's offbeat, over-the-top sense of humour, something that drew in more than just gorehounds. For three seasons, Bruce Campbell reprised his role of Ash as he chainsawed his way through countless demons, usually followed by a catchphrase. Anyone who loved the films found a new home.
The show even managed some pleasant surprises along the way, with a strong supporting cast including TV legend Lee Majors as Ash's father. It was also equally unforgiving, killing of characters brutally that one would expect to survive (a personal favourite is a woman impaled on a deer head). Sadly, like most cult works that don't draw in the average masses, it didn't bring in enough of an audience, ending with the same kind of cynical, funny twist as its predecessors.
