10 Most Gruesome TV Shows Of All Time

2. Slasher

When the Scream TV Series first debuted on MTV, it took the same satiric tone as the film franchise; how, one character ponders, can a slasher film work as a TV show? The rules are so set in stone, the story beats so set, it was never meant to be episodic.

Slasher, a Canadian show meant to mirror the same plotting, isn't wasting time making quips. From the first scene, a character is stabbed in the back with a machete, the blade slowly and brutally cutting up his midsection.

The whodunnit anthology series is less well-known than Scream, and it may not be the best or smartest mystery-slasher on television, but it pulls no punches when it comes to violence, throwing characters on tablesaws.

The abject cruelty of the killing is almost as exploitative as an 80s horror film - rightfully so. In terms of quality, however, it waivers from season to season.
