2. The final scene
It goes without saying that Buffys final scene – or its entire final episode, for that matter – was always going to be an incredibly emotional one. After growing attached to the characters over 7 years it was an exceptionally well done, emotional goodbye.
The final episode was filled with nuances and call backs to previous seasons for long time fans. Giles saying “The Earth is definitely doomed” – a throwback to the first episodes aired being one of them. But it was the final scene that was so moving. Seeing our entire Scooby gang standing over the huge hole that now occupied where Sunnydale previously stood, Buffy smiling. After all their pain, all their many sacrifices, they had finally closed the Hellmouth for good.
It was such a powerful way to end such a beloved
show and finally offered a respite for a cast of characters we had grown so
fond of. Knowing we had no more episodes to come was such a bittersweet
feeling. But there was one moment of the show that hurt viewers like no other…
