10 Most Hated Star Trek Voyager Episodes

8. Unforgettable, Season 4, Episode 20

Demon Voyager

A mysterious woman named Kellin arrives at Voyager claiming to have had a relationship with Chakotay, something he has no memory of since she is a Ramuran, a species that emits a pheromone that causes others to forget them in a day or two and whose central edict doesn't allow its citizens to leave or reveal anything to outsiders.

Unforgettable wants to be a swoony romance, but multiple issues prevent it from earning our affection. First, the episodic nature of the series means no guest star will end up with a regular cast member, sapping all suspense and making it difficult to invest in a relationship we know won't last. In addition, Robert Beltran and Virginia Madsen look like performers going through the motions with a distinct lack of chemistry.

We are also given no explanation why Chakotay is so fond of Kellin other than a line by Neelik that love can’t really be explained which sure isn't the deepest of insight and which doesn't make sense considering Chakotay first treats Kellin with indifference before suddenly becoming infatuated leading to whiplash rather than flutters.

Another plot thread concerning a Tracer, an agent assigned to capture Ramuran runaways, who infiltrates the ship, ends up making the Prime Directive rules feel confusing. This is due to some contradictory actions by Captain Janeway, who initially offers Kellin sanctuary while locking the Tracer in the brig, before letting him go and allowing him to take Kellin back, stating that meddling in foreign affairs is against protocols. Overall, Unforgettable fails to craft a memorable romance with the only silver lining being that the crew will quickly forget this ever happened.
