10 Most Hated Star Trek Voyager Episodes

4. The Disease, Season 5 Episode 16

Demon Voyager
Paramount

The Voyager crew are assisting the Varro, a xenophobic species dealing with a dissident internal faction, repair their warp drive in a nice setup that is set aside to focus on Ensign Kim and his torrid love affair with Varro woman Tal.

Unfortunately, Garrett Wang just can’t sell the intense attraction that the romance requires and has a distinct lack of chemistry with Musetta Vander. Harry and Tal should be bursting with passion to the point of obsession, but instead seem like acquaintances with benefits with some intimate moments marred by cringey dialogue and awkward delivery.

What's more, Harry Kim is just too unlikeable for any real audience sympathy to blossom. Everyone keeps mentioning how he has grown up from the rookie ensign of earlier seasons, which is a flat out lie as he spends most of the time acting like an immature moron.

He willfully breaks Federation protocols by mingling with an alien without testing their physiological compatibility putting their health at risk resulting in his titular disease. What's more, in a contender for most unlikeable Harry moment of all time, he whines on the bridge about how he's being unfairly separated from his true love when he has done nothing but break every rule.

The episode does have some saving graces, mainly when Captain Janeway verbally reprimands Ensign Kim for his foolish behavior. Sadly, it's not enough to cure The Disease.
