4. Cersei Lannister
Queen Cersei Lannister. Most of Season 6 could've been loosely predicted based on fan theories, books, and foreshadowing, but not many people would've predicted at the start of Season 6 that one of the final scenes would've shown Cersei's coronation.
It was an incredible moment after an episode that saw Cersei's 'Hail Mary' shot at blowing up the Sept succeed. She hadn't gone very far throughout the season, but the final episode launched her character up the power scale immeasurably.
She is a genuinely terrific character - one of modern TV's finest - and strikes at the audience's conscience. Yes, fans know she's evil, treacherous, and extremely volatile but she's Cersei Lannister and she's sitting on the big, bad Iron Throne.
