Another character like Qyburn who could've been finished off a while ago is Davos. He was the simple Geordie who loyally followed Stannis and watched as Melisandre's presence warped the rightful heir's mind.
Davos could've been polished off at any moment, but he made it out of the madness and after so long of being isolated in Stannis' story, he's now free to make his own decisions.
His intrigue of Jon was hinted at during Season 5, and in Season 6 he was he loyal guardian who ensured the resurrection got underway. Davos proved he's more than just a blind sheep. He has a heart, a conscience, and his dramatic climax to the Shireen/Melisandre story was heartfelt and impactful. Davos is a potential King's Hand in the making, with his character is growing better by the episode.
