2. Laura's Killer Revealed
In its day, the 'Who killed Laura Palmer?' mystery was one of the biggest on TV. But nobody expected the resolution to be so damn messed up.
In the most emotional and gripping episode of the show's history, a seemingly innocent Leland Palmer looks in a mirror, and the malevolent Bob looks back. Following this initial bombshell, we reach a visceral scene, where the revealed killer claims his next victim, this time in the form of Laura Palmer's hapless cousin, Maddy Ferguson.
Interspersed between Bob and Leland, this newly unveiled monster in disguise torments and violates Maddy, and takes his time doing it. It's shocking, surreal, and pretty tough to watch. Despite knowing that it isn't really Leland's fault, you can never look at the character in the same way again.
Even more stunning is the cutaway response to this incident from Agent Dale Cooper and his pals at the Roadhouse club. Despite having little or no idea that this event is occurring, they all visibly feel a profound wave of sadness. Typical David Lynch. Utterly tragic, but also beautiful.
