3. "How's Annie?"
The cliffhanger that pained us for 25 years. Laura Palmer did warn us.
It's fair to say that the original series of Twin Peaks went a little off the rails after the Laura Palmer story arc, and not in a good way. It did however provide a stunning conclusion, and the most surreal and intensive dose of Red Room shenanigans that the viewers had ever seen.
After crossing through the Black Lodge, Dale Cooper attempts to save his newfound love, Annie, only to be caught up in a trap of surreal proportions. The final ten minutes of that episode consists of an avant-garde and wholly noisy trip for the senses. It ends with the emergence of what the hapless inhabitants of Twin Peaks believe is the real Dale Cooper. But this disturbed doppelganger immediately proceeds to privately smash his forehead against a bathroom mirror, whilst sarcastically chanting the words "How's Annie?" Roll credits.
So gave rise to the villain that would be known as Mr C, two and a half decades later. Great payoff, but the waiting time was a drag.
