10 Most Meta Star Trek Moments

4. Star Trek Honours Its Most Famous Moment

Star Trek Into Darkness Spock

There is no way at all that people were able to keep a straight face while filming Spock's scream in Star Trek Into Darkness. The Khan shout is an iconic moment in Star Trek's history, delivered with all of the aplomb and ludicrous gusto that William Shatner could muster. It has been parodied countless times in media, to the point where the inclusion in Into Darkness feels like a very deliberate joke.

While the film itself is less than stellar, Zachary Quinto consistently delivered a strong performance as Spock. However, the far more emotional approach to the character by the writers led the way to this ridiculous scream in the film. As depicted, it just doesn't work. Yet, while Spock should never have been the one to deliver the outburst, it was just too similar to The Wrath of Khan.

No attempt is made to switch things up, bar the character change. It feels like everyone is winking at the camera in the build-up and that the audience is expected to laugh and cheer once it arrives. Well, certainly some laughing happened.
