8. That's Life, "Telefon" - Germany, 1986

In 1980 alone, there were songs about hitch-hiking, petrol, and in the most meta-reference in the contest's history, Eurovision itself. But nothing quite comes close to this attempt at entering the contest from Germany. "Telefon" is a song proclaiming how wonderful telephones are and appears to be set in the most euro-friendly call centre in the world. Apart from the music sounding like something you'd expect to hear when you were stuck in an elevator, all the members of That's Life appear to be hamming up their roles as much as possible. The song was written by Ralph Siegel, who wrote "Ein biŸchen Frieden", the 1982 winner, just four years earlier. It was the start of a slow decline in to sheer bonkers entries from the prolific producer. That's Life came last in the German national final.
